Sound Design / Sintetizatoare
« on: December 27, 2018, 06:15:41 AM »
Despre sintetizatoare (rezumat)

1. Parametrii generali

a) Oscilatoare (oscillators)

d) LFOs (Low Frequency Oscillators)

c) Sintetizatoare Subtractive (Subtractive Synths)

     (operators)

Mixing Techniques / Equalization - basics
« on: May 10, 2018, 09:50:26 AM »
EQ - is adjusting the volume of a frequency

Types:

- shelving EQ
- graphic EQ
- parametric EQ
- semiparametric EQ

One of the most used EQ is Parametric EQ

- Parametric EQ is build up with 8 bands :

1.Low Cut Filter (or High Pass Filter)
2.Low Shelf Filter
3.Bell Filter 1
4.Bell Filter 2
5.Bell Filter 3
6.Bell Filter 4
7.High Shelf Filter
8.High Cut Filter (or Low Pass Filter)

This 8 bands can be controlled with 3 parameters:

- frequency -  let as choose the frequency we want to adjust
- volume/gain db  -  let us adjust the amplitude of the frequency
- Q ( a low Q setting as  0.75 a large range of frequencies is affected, a high Q setting – such as 21.0 results in a narrow bandwidth and a smaller range of
  frequencies affected)

Egalizatorul (EQ) - Ne permite să ajustăm volumul frecvenței unui sunet

Clasificare:

- shelving EQ
- egalizator grafic
- egalizator parametric
- egalizator semiparametric

Egalizatorul Parametric ( unul dintre cele mai utilizate egalizatoare )

1.Low Cut Filter (or High Pass Filter)
2.Low Shelf Filter
3.Bell Filter 1
4.Bell Filter 2
5.Bell Filter 3
6.Bell Filter 4
7.High Shelf Filter
8.High Cut Filter (or Low Pass Filter)

  narrow)

Music Arrangement Tips & Tricks / Music Arrangement
« on: May 09, 2018, 11:15:09 AM »
In this topic will talk mainly about EDM SONG STRUCTURE and its elements. However, we can find this elements in the other genres  as well.

RHYTHM  - basic rhythms are  2/4 ,3/4, 4/4

TEMPO  - it's measured in BPM ( beats per minute ), usually it used a tempo in between  120 and 140 bpm. There are variations depends of the genre!

a) Most of EDM tracks are build with 4 main elements:

- INTRO ( leads into the BREAKDOWN, give time to DJ to mix from a track to another)
- BREAKDOWN ( usually here we take out the drums and we prepare the listener for build up)
- BUILD UP ( here is where we create the energy for the drop using uplifters, snare rolls, pitched synths, special effects etc.)
- DROP ( the main sector of any edm track )

b) One of the most common arrangement is ABABCB:

- A - the verse
- B - the chorus or the drop
- C - the Bridge, it is different than the other two, here we can find different chords and harmonies which usually leads back to A or B.

7

- DROP ( partea principală a unei piese )

Sound Design / Synthesizers - Parameters and Classification
« on: April 27, 2018, 01:49:25 PM »
About Synthesizers (overview)

1. General Parameters

a) Oscillators

    - any type of musical instrument can be emulated by a synthesizer through waveforms SINE, SAW, SQUARE, TRIANGLE,
      PULSE, NOISE.

    - oscillators are synthesizers components which are producing waveforms

b) Filters

    - with the help of filters we add, subtract, amplify or reduce a frequencie:

c) Envelopes

    - defines the way we percep the sound (long sound, short sound etc.)
    - Attack Decay Sustain Release ( in the image we observe how the envelope is shaping the sound and the way we percep it)

    - with envelopes we can control filters (Filter Envelope), the amp (Amp Envelopes) etc.

d) LFOs (Low Frequency Oscillators)

    - LFOs, can be linked depends of the synth, to any other parameter  (Pitch, Pan, Filter, Volume etc.)
    - vibrato is one of the effects that can be produced with LFOs

e) Effects

    - delay, reverb, chorus etc. we can find this effects integrated almost in any kind of synths.

2. Classification

a) Samples Synthesize (Samplers)

  - instead of waveforms (sine, saw, square, triangle) this type of synthesises use  samples (short piece of digital audio  - recorded mp3, wav etc.)

b) Additive Synthesizers

  - they use waveforms (Sine, Saw, Square, Pulse, Noise) in blocks for creating sounds

c) Subtractive Synths

  - a simple scheme of this type of synthesize - the oscillator generates a tone  (saw, sine, triangle etc.) which goes through a filter which will amplify, reduce, cut frequencies  depends of the filter type (low pass LP, High pass Hp, Band Pass BP etc.). We can apply Envelopes (ADSR - Attack Decay Sustain Release) and LFOs.

d)  FM Synthesizers

   -  the Matrix is the main characteristic we find at this type of synths

   - The matrix allows us to establish connexions( also called algorithms ) easily, between synths oscillators, oscillators which in FM synthesizes are also called operators.

Music Theory / Music Theory/Basic concepts
« on: April 26, 2018, 06:30:16 PM »
This topic has an informative character and contains basic elements from Music Theory!

1. The Sound = vibrations that travel through the air or another medium and can be heard when they reach a person's or animal's ear.

- (musical sounds ) – pleasant sounds  (the sound of a musical instrument)
- (non musical sounds) – for exemple sounds produced by falling objects which disturbs the human ear.
- Humans can only hear sound waves as distinct pitches when the frequency lies between about 20 Hz and 20 kHz. (20Hz - 20.000Hz)

2. Musical Notes

Musical Notes have 7 names : C,   D,   E,    F,   G,      A,   B. (international notation)
DO, RE, MI, FA, SOL, LA, SI.

Notes are grouped in octaves (eight notes, from C1 la C2 - C1 D1 E1 F1 G1 A1 B1 C2) every each musical note has a specific frequency (in the image the frequency is typed with red color):

3. Scales

Musical Scales are a series of musical notes selected in a specific mode from the notes of an octave.

Types of Scales:

Major Scale
Minor Scale
Harmonic Minor Scale
Melodic Minor Scale
Pentatonic Scales

The most used are the Major and Minor Scales (in the image the green dot represents the beginning of a scale followed up by the rest of the scale notes which are the orange dots):

3. Chords

Chords are a group of notes which can be played together and can function as melodic harmonies.

Chords build from 3 notes (triads):

Major Chords:

Minor Chords:

Teoria Muzicii / Teoria Muzicii/Concepte de bază
« on: April 16, 2018, 03:38:41 PM »

2. Notele muzicale

Sunetele muzicale au 7 denumiri: C,   D,   E,    F,   G,      A,   B. (notația internațională)
DO, RE, MI, FA, SOL, LA, SI.

Acorduri Majore (Major Chords):

Acorduri Minore (Minor Chords):
